We've had a busy and creative summer at White Lies Designs and would like to introduce some new items on the site...

Knitted bags and totes are becoming quite popular and there have been many requests for leather handles. In response to this we've designed our own tubular leather handles in two lengths and four colors. They are a beautiful and sturdy finishing touch for your knitting.

We've been working on our own line of hand dyed yarns and the first of our colors are ready to unveil!  An easy pullover shell pattern in a huge range of sizes or easy sock pattern is our free gift included with every yarn purchase of Treasure Island Cotton or River City Superwash.

Vintage dressing has turned from a fad into a long term fashion trend.

Two of Spring 2003's magazines will feature interpretations of vintage knitting designs by Joan. Look to Interweave Knits and Cast On to include these sleek sweater-girl knits.

In addition, she has written an article on working with vintage patterns to appear in the same issue of Cast On.

Joan's Patterns of the Past group on Yahoo!Groups has printable files with free vintage knitting patterns from many eras, as well as other interesting info. To join, click here.

We will, as always, be at Stitches in Oakland, February 2003 with new styles and items.

It pleases us to announce that we will have a booth for the first time at  the TKGA National Convention at Burbank in March of 2003. Joan will also be teaching a class on Plus Sized Knitting! Sign up early, as spots are already filling for this event.

Summer is almost upon us, and Joan has been busy designing and writing for your favorite publications!

The summer issue of Interweave Knits magazine features a handsome men's linen/cotton blend pullover inspired by her husband Mike. It's an easy-to-knit and comfortable style sure to please the man in your life.

Knitters Magazine summer issue contains two of Joan's felted bag designs! One is a sturdy tote, the next a retro-inspired shoulder bag; both are simple and fast using mitered squares.

Included in the summer issue of Cast On magazine is the second of three parts in Joan's "Size Matters" series for plus-sized knitters. In this installment, she guides the reader in sizing up a simple tee shirt body to fit and flatter the ample form.

In other news, we will be at the Fiber Fair at Lambtown in Dixon, California on Saturday,July 27, 2002. Joan will be showing her designs and teaching classes. http://www.lambtown.com for more information.

Stitches West was great! It was wonderful to meet so many of you in person that we've known online.

The hit of the show was our new retro-inspired style called "Myrna". It has a fabulous 40's flavor that is just right for today and has been interpreted in luxurious 100% alpaca.

Another new addition to our line premiered in the fashion show and got excellent reviews! " Mood Indigo" is a flowy jacket/sundress set that includes our new hand dyed yarn and matching fabric. Beautiful as well as practical for the upcoming summer months.

Also, we've added children's fashions to our line! The "Leaf and Cable Dress/Short Set" for girls and the unisex "Grape Jelly Snowflake Pullover" will make you wish you had little ones to knit for or feel glad that you do..

Joan's Vintage Knitting class was  so exciting and has spawned a new discussion group at Yahoo!
This group is being formed to facilitate the discussion and trading of vintage knitting patterns and magazines from 1870-1975.
Also discussed may be techniques for finishing, sources for patterns, yarns, and trims, and incorporating Retro styles into a modern wardrobe.

WOW, what a busy time here at WLD headquarters...
Stitches West is fast approaching. We are looking forward to seeing all our knitting friends at our booth. Joan's Vintage Knitting class is sold out, what a great compliment to her. (Look for more classes next year.) We will have an expanded line this year ... more patterns, more yarn, more books ... more is better, right?!

Classes... The beginning knitting class was a smashing success, what a motivated bunch of new knitters! Two more sets of classes will be starting soon and is looking like another sell-out success. The next classes will be Beginning Knitting starting on March 13th and Intermediate Knitting starting on March 14th. Contact the Arcade Creek Recreation and Parks Department in Sacramento, CA. Call (916)482-8377 for complete information.

Publications... Joan's most recent designs and articles will be hitting the newsstands soon... watch for The Spring 2002 Issue of Knitters Magazine, the Summer 2002 issue of Interweave Knits, and the Spring '02 issue of Cast On at your favorite newsstand or bookstore. In fact, the next three issues of Cast On will include a series of articles written by Joan on the subject of knitting for plus-sizes, appropriately titled "Size Matters".
